Are You Super Successful or an Average Joe?
August 8th, 2007 Posted in Creating Success, Curt's ArticlesThis is the question that you need to answer. Look around your organization, look at your friends and family. Who is successful and who is average?
What is your choice?
I hope you said Super Successful!! It’s funny. Most people believe that there is a vast difference between the wealthy and happy people and the average performer.
Good News!!!
There isn’t. The difference is simply desire. The desire for more. I cannot define “more”, as that is something only you can answer. Desire is an Attitude adjustment from “willing to settle” to “go out and get it”. Which one are you?
Aristotle, perhaps the greatest philosopher ever, wrote that the ultimate aim of all human action is for happiness. He concluded that everything a person does is to achieve some level of happiness.
Want a good job?
Want more money?
Want a nice home or car?
Want a good family?
The ultimate goal of all these and all other actions is to be Happy.
It is safe to conclude that regardless of what you feel is your greatest “desire”, happiness is the true goal. So how do you achieve it?
Integrity and Values
Integrity is often defined as what you do when nobody is looking. Having true Integrity means that you always act in harmony with your thoughts or values.
We have all known people that are two-faced. That is, they play nice to your face and then bad mouth you behind your back. This is the opposite of Integrity.
Values are determined by what you believe in. What principles do stand for or do not stand for? You must clearly define your values to determine what kind of person you are. This will allow you to make decisions and act in accordance with your deepest thoughts. Which in turn allows you to live in harmony with yourself, thus creating a happier you.
Your Goal:
1) Define your Values. This takes some time and serious thought. What kind of person do you want to be? Write down all of your true values and begin to think and act in accordance with them.
2) What is your definition of Integrity? Do your actions always reflect your values? When you are under pressure, do you maintain your values or do you make “exceptions.” If so, why did you compromise your values?
