What is your Motivation?

October 2nd, 2007 Posted in Creating Success, Curt's Articles

This past Tuesday, I was fortunate enough to attend a “Get Motivated” seminar.  It was a huge event that took place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.  For those not familiar with this arena, it is the home of the Dallas Mavericks Basketball team and it seats approx 20,000 people.

The reason I bring this up, is because it was sold out.  Every seat was occupied including additional seating added on the floor level.
I thought it was great.  To me, that says there is a large segment of the population that desires for something more than what they currently have.

In a time where it seems that every way you turn there are bad news and negative stories, it was very comforting to see so many people not being sucked into the false depression that the news would like us all to believe.

There was a wide array of subjects that were discussed by the different presenters.  Colin Powell talked about leadership, Avery Johnson discussed success, Brian Tracy spoke about sales, and Phil Town showed us tips for investing in the stock market.

All in all it was great to see so many different personalities from diverse backgrounds on the same stage attempting to motivate and share their success paths with us.

Although, I took some great tips from each speaker, it was something that Avery Johnson said that has stuck in my mind.  He said, “We are not created to fail.”

What he meant is that all of us were given the gift of life for a real purpose.  Even though life has its difficulties that we all encounter, we are born with all the tools we need to succeed.  Nobody can control our minds or our hearts.

If you set your mind to be successful with the passion that is in your heart, nothing can stop you from achieving it.

We are all born to accomplish our life’s true passion; the trick is learning to stay the course.  Every day, we encounter obstacles that can veer us farther and farther away from what we wish to achieve.

Make note that as long as you have a clear and defined goal, there is not one set path designed to get you there.  You will have struggles and difficulties come up that will try and side track you.  It is your choice to get back up, dust yourself off, and continue on your journey.

No other person or event can prevent you from getting to where you want to go, if that is your desire. You may be delayed or need to focus more to bring your new path into clarity, but I can assure you that it is there to be found.

I often hear people say that motivation is just temporary, and that is true.  Zig Ziglar likes to say “Motivation is only temporary, but so is eating and bathing.  If you do both regularly you will live a more healthy life and smell better in the process.”

It is true, motivation gets you going, but habit gets you there.

So if you need motivation to keep you focused towards achieving your passion, make it a daily habit.  Read positive articles and success stories.  Talk to people that you admire and find out what motivates them.

Allow yourself the opportunity to achieve your goals by adding something positive and motivational to your everyday life and cutting out the negative items.

I personally do not watch the news any more as it is all twisted to be negative.  There are far more good people and stories in the world than bad, those stories just don’t make the cut anymore.

At this seminar I attended, I saw 20,000 people simply looking for help in their quest to achieve their goals of success and happiness.  If none of the speakers would have said a single word that would have been enough proof for me that the Unites States is the greatest place on earth.

What is your motivation?

Find it.

Define it.

Achieve it.

You deserve it,  you were born to succeed.
